User Roles
The Designers Perspective
Each project starts with the development of a series of design templates, together with a set of commonly used site design elements such as logos, banners, etc., for use by individual editing groups.
These are normally the responsibility of designated designers, who may be based in-house or within an external agency.
Designers can make full use of all the powerful features of Contensis to facilitate rapid site development within a structured environment.
Dynamic menu structures can be created, links can be managed, images can be manipulated, multimedia elements incorporated and functional forms enabled within one intuitive interface.
Site redevelopments can be tested and implemented quickly on development or staging servers to demonstrate the viability of new designs, either site-wide or within sections.
Once a new design template is implemented, its deployment will trigger cascading change, eliminating tedious repetition and significantly reducing project lead-times.
Templates incorporating style sheets perform a vital function in maintaining corporate look and feel, when responsibility for content contribution is passed to individual non-technical editing groups on a day-to-day basis. Designers can, therefore, specify precisely within templates the degree of freedom given to these groups.
More on Templates
Each department may have its own department-specific templates and design elements, which only their authorised users can access, whilst corporate templates and content might be made more generally available, depending upon privileges.
Designers may use their favourite development tools for template creation or use the in-built template development features within the system.
Contensis handles multiple media types effortlessly, therefore template elements can include HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, Flash, movies, sound, Microsoft® Office documents and multiple image types, etc.
During the template creation process, designers will welcome the facility to search not only current content elements but also previously created versions.
The image library
The image library includes powerful image manipulation features quite apart from resize and crop. Multiple versions of individual images can be created and located with ease. Thumbnails make the selection process even more straightforward.
Images can, if required, be loaded into the Image Library as originals at repro quality (300dpi) for continued use in traditional media applications. Contensis will immediately allocate a version number and maintain the original version throughout the image life cycle, thereby preserving its integrity.
When the image is selected for web use, Contensis will automatically create a new, web-optimised version at 72dpi (the preferred web resolution) to ensure the fastest possible download time.
If changes are subsequently made to the image within the system, such as cropping, resizing or filter application, a new version number will be created for the new image when it is saved.
The Image Library quickly becomes an easily managed interactive repository. External agencies can also be given secure access to download and upload images so that they can be shared profitably throughout an organisation.
